After several months, I finally made it here. This Korean/Japanese fusion is unlike any other I've ever experienced. Owners Leon & Joanne are the best! They welcomed us with open arms. The lunch buffet is the most extravagant spread that I've ever seen at an Asian restaurant.
As a typical foodie, I glanced over all the tables before making my plate. Everything looked pleasant. But how would it taste?
There was no doubt in my mind that I was in for a treat. However, this cuisine exceeded expectations. Not only did it look appetizing but it tasted sensational!
I usually don't visit buffets. Germs, over cooked food, undercooked food etc. That was not the case today. One of my favorites is the seafood noodle. The flavors are tantalizing and the noodles are just firm enough.
The sushi rolls were great too! The mango roll totally has my heart! All dishes and sauces are made fresh and onsite. I actually taste the difference!!!
I will definitely be back with other foodies very soon! Ash said it was the best Asian Fusion in ATLANTA!

I have been coming here since it opened and am pretty happy with the quality of the food and the comfortable atmosphere. Only eating here for lunch with the buffet or the togo option my review is limited to only that and not ordering from the menu.
The people are super nice and there are so many good seating options for a relatively small place. Sit at a table, sushi bar or your own little room option which is great for business lunches or with the family.
While they brand it as a sushi buffett it is not all they have on it. They have a pretty kicking amount of salad options, hot dishes and Korean side dishes.
The salads are pretty amazing and they change often on the bar. I personally like the miso dressing they have which I usually put over purple cabbage they have cut fresh. Also enjoy the shrimp salad which is a winner in my book too.
The hot area gives a decent assortment of meat, rice/noodles and veggie items and again is always changing. I enjoy the fried mushrooms and the different Korean meat dishes they substitute out. My kids love the edamame and fried rice which they almost always have.
Then we have the side dishes (which part of exist in salad area too) are pretty solid and they sometimes will have soup options here too, but I forgot to mention they always bring you a miso soup with your buffett.
Then we have the sushi which like the rest of the place changes often for the rolls. You always get a Cali roll and the sashimi is what you expect with tuna, salmon, egg, etc. The rolls are always an adventure that turns out good and they keep it stocked and made fresh. The sashimi is what is lacking most here. Overall it is not awful, but cut very thin and just not that great overall. Lots of rice with a small cut of fish... Which is my docking of one star for. Otherwise this is a pretty good spot and I recommend you check out if you have not!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Stephanie B.Dunwoody, GA7685211Apr 20, 2018
I've been coming here since like 2010 and it has never, EVER failed me. The All You Can Eat sushi bar is always a win! The sushi is always fresh, especially the nigiri style sushi. I've had instances where the tuna literally melted in my mouth!
The fried rice on the AYCE buffet is also some of the best that I've had. I really enjoy every aspect of the buffet. I have yet to try the actual menu items but I'm sure they are just as delicious as everything else!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

APRIL SPECIAL: $10.99 AYCE LUNCH 11:30am-2:30pm on MONDAYS and TUESDAYS. You're welcome!
My parents are in town and a quick search of AYCE Lunch led me to Kang Buk. The AYCE Lunch Buffet is usually $12.99. (There's one other AYCE in Suwanee for $11.99 with slightly fewer options.)
My family of 4 came in around 12:30pm. It was relatively busy, but there's ample seating and we were seated immediately. It's family friendly and there are various private rooms named after different places in Korea. I was initially confused as there are no advertisements about their AYCE Lunch Buffet. Not on the door, not on the menu, not online, except for in the reviews. I asked the waitress to confirm and only later noticed a little sign at the register. BUT, yes, the AYCE does in fact exist.
There's a salad bar, hot food options (squid stir-fry, spicy pork, chicken, fried tempura, fried mushrooms, kimchi pancakes, fried rice), and a variety of sushi and rolls (salmon, shrimp, red clam, tamago, musubi, kiwi roll, crunch roll, fried shrimp roll etc.) No desserts options - just oranges and mini donut balls.
Fair warning: You will be left with severe food coma after your meal.
The consensus: This is everything you can expect from a lunch buffet. It's not gourmet, but for the price, you get a decent variety of options and decent quality food. Only thing I'd change is for the food to be hot instead of cooled off/warm.
Also, the manager at the register is super sweet and friendly, so plus points for that.
Overall, my family enjoyed the experience and left absolutely stuffed. Make your trip over to Kang Buk because you won't regret it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Stella,
Thanks for your detailed and kind review! We will change our menu line up next month to spruce it up a bit. Please come back and enjoy our delicious food anytime~ - Esther H.Lawrenceville, GA162174420Feb 21, 2018Updated review
I came to Kang Buk 2 years ago and thought it was okay. Since then, Kang Buk has dropped off my radar since Duluth has so much more to offer.
A few weeks ago, my sister in law told me about a sushi challenge that had appeared in Facebook. Apparently, Kang Buk was doing sushi challenges and I was surprised because this was the first time I've heard of a sushi challenge in the area. I speculated that Kang Buk must be under new management.
Fast forward a few weeks to today. I decided to drop by for a late lunch because Umaido was closed and I needed to make an Hmart run after. The restaurant was pretty empty but I was seated and given a menu. I ordered the salmon gui combo and it came with sashimi, soup, salad, and a bowl of rice.
The food was good and the salmon was cooked nicely. It came out sizzling because it was cooked so freshly, if that makes sense. The side dishes were okay; I personally prefer my kimchi a little more fermented.
The new owner, Leon, was in the restaurant and he recognized me from Yelp so we talked for a bit and he let me try the new Godzilla roll, which tasted so good but if you're not a fan of cream cheese or jalapenos, I recommend staying away from it.
TLDR: I recommend coming to try out the new Kang Buk and decide for yourself whether you like it or not :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you Esther! It is wonderful to meet you. Wonderful conversation. Looking forward to you returning with a group of your friends. We will roll out the red carpet to get that elusive 5th star ;)
-Leon and JohannaAug 26, 2016Previous reviewKang Buk is a good place to go if you're looking for a place to chat and chill for a while. Although it is a Japanese restaurant, it is Korean - owned and operated so don't be surprised if you hear Korean and if you are served Korean side dishes before your entrees are brought out.
The interior is a bit dim but it's not so bad. There are private rooms to the left of the restaurant and a little detail that I like is that the rooms are named but I'm not sure if they're named after towns or something of that sort.
The sushi selections seemed pretty pricy in my opinion but I haven't had any yet so I can't say anything in terms of taste and quality. Hopefully the bang is worth the buck!
There is a large selection of sashimi and sashimi/sushi platters which I'm going to assume is their specialty. Also, because they're Korean owned, I'm also going to assume that because of that, there are some Korean dishes on the menu as well but not so much that it overrides the restaurant as Korean rather than Japanese (hopefully that made sense).
My husband and I dropped by for dinner and he ordered the unagi don and a tiger roll (I think) while I ordered grilled mackerel. Our side dishes came out first and then they brought out the unagi don on a big beautiful plate that was garnished with yellow pickled radish, Japanese pickled ginger, and what I think was pickled garlic. I waited quite a while for my grilled mackerel to be brought out because my husband easily finished his food and was left waiting for me as I ate mine but it was tough because while I was waiting, I took a few bites of the side dishes because I was hungry. Our tiger roll was okay; I didn't really like it because of personal preference.
For me, I would rather go somewhere else for Japanese food just because I know there are better places out there and also because I don't usually have any business in the plaza anyway so I have other places to go to. - Sep 29, 2017
We have a new favorite sushi spot! This place is awesome! The sushi is delicious, very fresh. The service is the best I've had in a while! The drinks are yummy. I'd say let the managers recommend & you will be pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is great as well.

I've heard of Asian buffets where you have a cacophony of food ranging from fried chicken to dumplings and that's centered mainly around Chinese buffets and many Chinese buffets have a "sushi" bar but there's nothing that screams quality with these places. And most Japanese restaurants, you'll hardly find a Japanese owner. Generally, Japanese restaurants will have a Korean owner to it which means, the authenticity level kind of drops but you still pay for decent quality.
For me, I've never heard of a restaurant coin the term "sushi buffet" till now. My mom decided to take me on a mother/son outing and mentioned this place. I knew of a sushi bar but to hear sushi buffet, I knew I had to try it out. Especially at $13+tip, makes for a pretty interesting deal to explore.
It's literally tucked away in the plaza where H-Mart, Kang Seo, and other Korean establishments are all conglomerated at off Lawrenceville-Suwannee Rd.
Upon entry, it's got a decent Korean restaurant vibe but reminds me of the Chung Ki Wa restaurant back in Detroit, but with a lite buffet instead of what you define a buffet to be. It had a sushi bar but also a sushi buffet but not quite so buffet if that makes any sense.
It's definitely sushi, but rather than a decent slice of the fish, you get more of a film of salmon or a slight film of tuna which means, flavor, a bit non-existent. They do offer variants of Japanese favorites like tonkatsu (tempura fried pork cutlets) but also give you a little bar of Korean pickled side dishes as well. The sushi bits are as follows for a Saturday: salmon, tilapia, tuna, eel, egg, sweet shrimp, deep fried dumpling something, and also rolls ranging from the generic California rolls to spicy tuna rolls. I did like the spicy tuna rolls for sure. But when you hear buffet, you think layers of sushi variants and also the hope of some sashimi but, when you see the selection, the term "buffet" kinda deflates you when you see how little is offered. But the fact that they do use "buffet", at $13 dollars a person, go and engorge.
I was able to stuff 3 trips into my gullet before calling it quits... which is about $4.50 a plate but definitely stocked up on the sushi.
So, since they call it a sushi bar, better use that to your advantage and go big or... go home...
That's the saying right?Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Took my parents here, and lunch buffet is still $10.99 for Korean/Japanese food although it might cost more on Sat/Sun. Buffet is available Mon-Sun 11:30-2:30pm. Try to get there early to avoid lines -- by 12:15, the lines were forming. Buffet selection is less than Cho-Won Buffet but the quality, cleanliness, and ambiance are much better (they have private booths too) ... but you are paying a few more dollars ($10.99 vs. $7.99). My favorite items were their salad items (love their ginger dressing), miso/kelp soup, and oranges (yes, their oranges).
While my first review said it was worth the drive, I think I'd probably come back only if I were in the area.
FYI - they have warning signs that say they will charge $10.99 extra if you don't eat the rice in the sushi.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Jan 27, 2010Previous reviewIt's hard to pass up trying a new restaurant with $10.99 sushi buffet, even if it's all the way up in Suwanee. I hoped the food would be worth the long drive and *relief*, it was :) My friend had told me a few months ago that I needed to try this place. The restaurant name is Kang Buk but their storefront sign says "Sushi Japanese Restaurant" in huge letters and "Kang Buk" is written in tiny letters in the bottom right corner. They're located on the far right side of the H Mart shopping center. Kang Buk is Korean-owned, and run by the same folks who own Kang Nam on Buford Hwy.
The $10.99 sushi buffet is available for lunch on Mon-Sat 11:30-2:30. They have other lunch combo specials, too. Obviously the better value is the buffet. Personally I enjoyed the salad bar & hot bar items more than the sushi, while my friend (who's been here many times) enjoys the sushi more. The buffet had a few Korean items too - bulgogi (DELICIOUS b/c it tasted grilled and not stir-fried), mook (acorn jello), o-jing-uh-bokeum (spicy stir-fried squid), radish kimchi, and even jja jang myun (Korean/Chinese black bean noodles). We were also offered mee-uk-gook (Korean seaweed soup) or miso soup at the beginning of our meal. Sushi section had quite a number of different rolls (and they were constantly refreshing with new selections) but just 4 different nigiri (tuna, salmon, flounder, eel). I wouldn't call the fish size very generous but remember, it's a $10.99 buffet.
Service was very good & attentive. I liked too that servers were very diligent about keeping the buffet bar clean - I think every time an item dropped and didn't make the person's plate, the server would be right behind to wipe it up. (Almost reminded me of the Korean Airlines flight attendants who fold the corners of the toilet paper after each person leaves the lavatory.)
The drive is a little far but if you're in the area, I'd definitely recommend eating here. - Stephen A.CO, CO42015Apr 27, 2018

I recently noticed that they've put up a sign in front of HMart for an AYCE lunch buffet - 7 days a week for $12.99 so of course I had to check it out. I honestly can't recall if they've ever had it before. But I've been here before just for the sushi, not from their Korean menu.
In regards to their AYCE lunch buffet, it's pretty decent. There's a small salad bar with most of your basic salad items along with a few Korean salad. My favorite is the bean sprout shrimp salad which they've cut the both tips off the sprouts.
Then you have the hot bar which has fried donuts, bulgogi, spicy noodles, fried rice, teriyaki chicken, chicken wings, Korean pancakes and a few others that they change out, but not much.
Then there's the banchan bar which as some typical side dishes that you get from most Korean places. There's a barley rice item that I absolutely love over regular steamed rice.
Lastly, you get the sushi bar which contains a good amount of rolls and a few nigiri sections. There isn't much of a dessert bar, just a bowl of fresh orange slices.
I like that it's not too many items because it'll give people too many choices and it'll hold up the line - just a personal thing. People that come here are well mannered and moves through the line fairly quickly.
I enjoyed it and have been back a few times already.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information
